On January 9, 2010, a 150,000-ton vessel “MV WELWIND” slowly sailed out from 7th berth of CSIS in the sound of whistles and firecrackers and began her maiden voyage. About 300 people including the shipowners, delegates from social shipping companies and classification society, and leaders from China Shipping Industry (Shanghai Pudong) Co. Ltd. and China Shipping Industry (Shanghai Changxing) Co. Ltd. have witnessed this moment. The shipowner delegate made a passionate speech on the ceremony and gave a very high evaluation to the ship conversion capacity of CSIS.

“MV WELWIND” which belongs to Oriental Ocean Shipping Holding Pte. Ltd. is the 5th vessel of “WEL” prefixed series converting in CSIS ship repair base. She is 274.3 meters long, 43.2 meters broad and 23.8 meters deep. Her conversion from oil tanker to bulk carrier began on September 1, 2009 and finished on January 1, 2010 with her total repair period of 120 days, which has created a new conversion record for vessels of the same type in CSIS. In the conversion of subject vessel, there are about 5,000 ton steel plates to be renewed, and a high production value has been created. The maiden voyage of “MV WELWIND” has blazed a trail for the ship repair production of CSIS in the new year.
